For an excellent example of logic, probability and measure theory solving real-life problems click here or here. As you might be able to tell, Ed's not a big Math/Theory person, he's much more interested in applying stats to real-life situations. Ed is a huge sports fan, particularly college football, as well as an accomplished statistician. These two factors led to the Kambour Football Ratings System, which can predict the outcome of football games by fitting an empirical Bayesian Linear Model. Ed presented the ratings system at the Conference of Texas Statisticians Meeting, in 1997 and 1998. Ed also gave an invited talk on the subject at the Joint Statistical Meetings in 2001. Remember, though, betting on football games is bad . NFL ratings based on the model can be viewed here . One can also see the ratings and forecasts for division 1a college football here as well as basketball here.
Ed and Theresa met while both were attending Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minnesota. They were married on December 17, 1994 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. My favorite wedding song .
